For the last 20 - 30 years the Waitara community, including surfers has been calling for a Sewage pipeline to avoid (treated) effluent from poluting the coastal area. This issue has reached another head with the latest Taranaki Regional Council consent application to continue pumping sewage offshore.
Surfbreak Protection Society has lodged a submission to the
Taranaki District Council expressing concern over continual
discharges without any demonstrable actions to mitigate the effects
it may have on ocean users and the local marine environment.
