The Draft Revision of New Zealand Coastal Policy statement recognises Surfbreaks! Updated  21_05_08

With the help of Rob Makgill, Environmental Lawyer for Berry & Co, Surfbreak Protection have submitted this final Submission on the proposed New Zealand Coastal Policy Statement 2008.
If accepted this will be the first time Surfbreaks will have legal recognition and protection in New Zealand..

Taranaki Surfbreaks Receive Recognition!      

Taranaki Regional Council is one step ahead of the NZCPS and in a bold and visionary initiative has already included provision for protection of ALL it surfbreaks in its Regional Coastal Policy Statement.  Other Regional Councils are now in the process of drafting their own submissions to the New Zealand Coastal Policy Statement (submission deadline 7 May), so we recommend you email your Regional Councillors to let them know you wish them to support Policy 20.

EARLY THIS YEAR THE WHANGAMATA MARINA SOCIETY CONDUCTED THEIR FIRST GEOTECHNICAL SURVEY OF THE CONSTRUCTION SITE, WHERE THEY INTEND TO DIG A BASIN FOR THE MARINA. WMS DIDN'T VENTURE INTO THE SALT MARSH TO COMPLETE THE SURVEY, AFTER "DISCOVERING" THE AQUIFER.  SEE THE VIDEO ON :

1. MISSION STATEMENT

 

Surfbreak Protection (the Society) is dedicated to the protection and enhancement of New Zealand's surf-breaks for the benefit of New Zealand's surfing community and all New Zealanders.

 

 

2. OBJECTIVES

 

The Society will promote the conservation and protection of the unique natural characteristics of surfbreaks throughout New Zealand /Aotearoa.

 

The Society will promote the maintenance of water quality at surfbreaks sufficient for human health and the healthy functioning of local marine life and ecosystems.
